When an EGO heating plate needs replacement, matching its rated power and nominal size is not enough. The mounting dimensions, heating structure, terminal layout, voltage, and temperature-control arrangement must also be checked.
JAYE Heater Technology manufactures standard and customized cast iron hotplates. This guide explains how to cross-reference common EGO solid hotplates with JAYE options and what to verify before selecting an alternative.
Scope: This article focuses on solid cast iron hotplates used in cooking equipment. E.G.O. also manufactures radiant and induction heating technologies, which have different structures and are not direct substitutes for solid hotplates. [1]
1. EGO Heating Plate and JAYE Cross-Reference
EGO solid hotplates are available in round, square, and rectangular configurations. Their heating resistors are embedded in an insulating compound inside the cast structure, helping provide heat transfer and distribution across the cooking surface. [1]
JAYE also manufactures round and square cast iron hotplates, including standard and rapid-heating models.
| EGO hotplate reference | JAYE standard cross-reference | Matching point |
|---|---|---|
| Ø145 mm, 1000 W | Ø145 mm, 1000 W | Nominal diameter and power |
| Ø145 mm, 1500 W | Ø145 mm, 1500 W rapid | Nominal diameter and power |
| Ø180 mm, 1500 W | Ø180 mm, 1500 W | Nominal diameter and power |
| Ø180 mm, 2000 W | Ø180 mm, 2000 W rapid | Nominal diameter and power |
| Ø220 mm, 2000 W | Ø220 mm, 2000 W | Nominal diameter and power |
| Ø220 mm, 2600 W | Ø220 mm, 2600 W rapid | Nominal diameter and power |
| Square 300 × 300 mm | Square 300 × 300 mm | Size; power requires confirmation |
These are preliminary cross-references based on published product dimensions and ratings, not confirmed drop-in replacements.
JAYE's standard round models include 80, 145, 180, and 220 mm diameters. Its square commercial hotplates include a 300 × 300 mm format. [2][3]
2. Dimension Matching: More Than the Outside Diameter
The nominal diameter or length × width is only one part of the installation dimensions.
For example, an EGO commercial hotplate drawing for the 220 × 220 mm series shows additional mounting and connection details, including four supporting points, terminal straps, an earthing connection, and specified side dimensions. [4]
Before selecting a replacement, compare:
- Overall dimensions: Round diameter or square/rectangular length and width.
- Mounting structure: Supporting points, fixing holes, brackets, and mounting height.
- Profile and rim: Hotplate height, edge shape, and spill-ring dimensions.
- Terminal arrangement: Number, position, direction, and type of electrical connections.
- Clearance: Available space beneath the cooking surface and around the terminals.
A replacement with the same nominal diameter may still require a different mounting arrangement.
If the original installation cannot be modified, dimensional compatibility becomes especially important.
3. Power and Voltage Matching
Power and voltage must be checked together. A hotplate with the correct physical size but a different electrical rating may not provide the intended heating performance.
JAYE's published standard round hotplate ratings include:
| JAYE model | Diameter | Rated power |
|---|---|---|
| HP-145S-4 | 145 mm | 1000 W |
| HP-145R-4 | 145 mm | 1500 W |
| HP-180S-4 | 180 mm | 1500 W |
| HP-180R-4 | 180 mm | 2000 W |
| HP-220S-4 | 220 mm | 2000 W |
| HP-220R-4 | 220 mm | 2600 W |
For square hotplates, JAYE lists a standard 300 × 300 mm format, with customized power options. [2]
EGO product references also show that the same nominal hotplate size can be offered with different power and voltage combinations. For example, the EGO 220 × 220 mm drawing includes versions rated at 2000 W and 2600 W, with multiple voltage variants. [4]
Important: Do not select a replacement based on wattage alone. Confirm the equipment supply voltage, wiring arrangement, phase, and required heating performance. A change in voltage or power can affect current draw and the equipment's control system.
4. Standard or Rapid Hotplate: Does the Heating Type Matter?
JAYE offers both standard and rapid round hotplates.
The two types can share the same nominal diameter while having different rated power.
For example, JAYE lists:
Ø145 mm standard: 1000 W
Ø145 mm rapid: 1500 W
Ø220 mm standard: 2000 W
Ø220 mm rapid: 2600 W
A rapid model generally has a higher rated power than the corresponding standard model. However, a higher wattage does not automatically make it a suitable replacement. The cooking appliance's wiring, control switch, temperature regulation, and intended heating behavior must all be compatible.
For commercial cooking equipment, also check whether the original hotplate uses a spill ring, protective features, or a specific terminal arrangement.
5. What Information Is Needed for an EGO Heating Plate Replacement?
To assess a suitable JAYE alternative, please provide:
- Original drawing or clear photos of the top, bottom, and terminal side.
- Outside diameter or length × width.
- Rated voltage and wattage.
- Mounting dimensions and terminal arrangement.
- Standard or rapid heating type, if known.
- Required quantity and application.
- An original sample can help when the drawing is unavailable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can JAYE replace an EGO heating plate with the same size and wattage?
JAYE offers hotplates with overlapping nominal sizes and power ratings. However, the mounting dimensions, terminal layout, and electrical requirements must also be checked before confirming compatibility.
Can JAYE customize an EGO hotplate replacement?
JAYE manufactures customized cast iron hotplates. Customization feasibility depends on the required dimensions, electrical ratings, structure, and quantity.
Can a solid EGO hotplate be replaced with a radiant or induction plate?
Not as a direct component replacement. Solid hotplates, radiant heating elements, and induction systems use different heating principles and installation structures. The appliance design would need to be evaluated separately.
