When current travels through a normal heating element, the resistance doesn't change, however, when current travels through PTC heaters, the resistance will change as the temperature rises, and this will maintain a consistent output of heat for much longer than other heating sources, effectively increasing the life of the heaters and greatly reducing the chance of overheating; the self-regulating properties are favourable for both domestic and industrial geyser applications that need to keep hot water reliably available.
