How to maintain a band heater?
Proper maintenance of band heaters ensures longer lifespan, consistent performance, and energy efficiency. Follow these best practices to keep your industrial heaters in top condition.
1. Regular Inspection & Cleaning
Check for Physical Damage
- Look for cracks, corrosion, or burnt spots on the heater surface.
- Inspect wiring and terminals for fraying or loose connections.
Remove Dust & Debris
- Use compressed air or a soft brush to clean accumulated dirt (especially in plastic extrusion applications).
- Avoid water or harsh chemicals unless the heater is waterproof.
2. Proper Installation & Fit
- Ensure the band heater is securely clamped (not too tight or loose).
- A poor fit causes uneven heating and reduces efficiency.
- Replace worn-out clamping screws to prevent slippage.
3. Monitor Temperature & Power Supply
Use a thermocouple or infrared thermometer to verify heating consistency.
Sudden temperature drops/spikes? Check:
- Faulty thermocouple
- Loose wiring
- Power supply issues
