Temperature Control: A thermocouple and control unit regulate the temperature of the pipe to the required pre-weld heating temperature (typically around 150°C to 300°C, depending on the material). This helps to reduce hardness and avoid brittleness in the heat-affected zone.
2. Welding Process:
Maintained Temperature: During welding, the ceramic heating pad may be left on to maintain the pipe at a consistent temperature, ensuring a uniform weld. This helps reduce the formation of defects such as cold cracking.
3. Post-Weld Heating (Post Weld Heat Treatment - PWHT):
Stress Relief Heating: After welding is complete, the ceramic heating pad is used for post-weld heat treatment (PWHT). This involves gradually heating the welded area to a specific temperature (often around 600°C to 700°C, depending on the pipe material) to relieve internal stresses created during welding.
Temperature Monitoring and Control: A thermocouple is attached to the pipeline, and the control unit ensures that the temperature rises at a controlled rate and stays within the desired range. Precise control prevents rapid heating, which could cause new stresses or metallurgical issues.
Cooling Phase: Once the required temperature has been maintained for a certain period, the ceramic heating pad is gradually cooled down to ensure uniform cooling and further relieve stress in the weld and surrounding metal.
