Mica Band heater are constructed by winding a resistance wire or ribbon around a sheet of mica, sandwiching that element between twoother sheets of mica, and then forming coated steel around the assembly. Mica-type band heaters have several advantages over other types of heater bands, but what makes them to be the most common heater in the plastics industry is the combination of reasonable high-watt density capabilities, reasonably high temperature capabilities (900 degrees Fahrenheit), good efficiency, good lifetime and low cost.
