Description

A KSD thermostat, also known as a bimetallic thermostat or snap-action thermostat, is a type of temperature-sensitive switch used to control electrical devices based on changes in temperature. It operates on the principle of a bimetallic strip, which consists of two different metal strips bonded together, each with a different coefficient of thermal expansion. As the temperature changes, the bimetallic strip bends due to the differential expansion of the two metals.

Heating Application: In a heating application, the KSD thermostat is used to prevent overheating. As the temperature rises, the bimetallic strip bends, and when it reaches the preset temperature threshold, it suddenly snaps, opening the electrical circuit and cutting off power to the heating element. This prevents the device from overheating.

Cooling Application: In a cooling application, the KSD thermostat is used to maintain a certain temperature level. As the temperature drops, the bimetallic strip bends in the opposite direction. When it reaches the predetermined temperature, it snaps again, closing the electrical circuit and activating the cooling device to maintain the desired temperature.
