Mica strips are usually used to insulate resistance band heaters.The mica strip heaters are low cost and they can withstand temperatures of up to 500oC and have a loading capacity of about 50 kW/m2 . Recent types of mica heaters can handle power densities up to 165 kW/m2. The durability of a heater depends on the usage and the contact between the barrel and the surface of the heaters.Inadequate surface contact will cause overheating and the outcome will reduced heater life or even premature burnout of the heater element. The mica strips can be customized to different height and different length with bending to the circle of diameter as required. Generally for plastic machines, as it required to using the bolt to assemble the mica strips on the barrel,so normally they are designed with holes in the middle of the strips with diameter about 20mm or as required.
The Standard mica strip heaters are designed depending on the equipment required in one or two piece constructions with maximum inside diameters of 111⁄2"and 221⁄2" respectively.
