U-type heating tubes are widely used as electric heating elements in sauna stoves because they provide efficient heat generation, reliable operation, and a compact installation design. They convert electrical energy into heat and transfer that heat to sauna stones and the surrounding air, helping maintain the high temperatures required for a comfortable sauna environment.
What Is a U-Type Heating Tube?
A U-type heating tube is a tubular electric heating element formed into a U-shaped configuration. It typically consists of a metal sheath, an internal resistance heating wire, and electrically insulating magnesium oxide (MgO) powder.
The basic structure includes:
Metal sheath: Protects the internal heating wire and transfers heat to the outside.
Resistance heating wire: Usually made from nickel-chromium (NiCr) or another suitable resistance alloy.
Magnesium oxide insulation: Electrically insulates the heating wire while allowing heat to transfer efficiently.
Terminal leads: Provide the electrical connection to the power supply.
U-shaped tube: Creates a compact heating configuration suitable for installation inside a sauna stove.

Why Are U-Type Heating Tubes Suitable for Sauna Stoves?
The U-shaped design provides several practical advantages.
Compact Installation
A U-type element provides a relatively long heating length within a compact physical space. This makes it suitable for sauna stoves where installation space is limited.
High Heating Efficiency
Tubular heating elements can transfer heat efficiently from the internal resistance wire through the MgO insulation and metal sheath to the surrounding stones and air.
Good Mechanical Strength
The metal sheath protects the internal heating wire from mechanical damage during installation and operation.
Flexible Customization
U-type heating tubes can be manufactured with different:
Tube diameters
Tube lengths
U-bend dimensions
Voltage ratings
Wattages
Terminal configurations
Sheath materials
This allows the heating element to be matched to different sauna stove designs.
Reliable Long-Term Operation
When correctly designed and operated within their specified temperature and electrical limits, tubular heating elements can provide stable heating performance over many heating cycles.
Typical Applications of U-Type Heating Tubes in Sauna Stoves
U-type heating tubes can be used in various electric sauna heating systems, including:
| Application | Function |
|---|---|
| Home Sauna Stoves | Heat sauna stones and cabin air |
| Commercial Sauna Heaters | Provide continuous high-temperature heating |
| Hotel Sauna Equipment | Support reliable repeated heating cycles |
| Fitness Center Saunas | Provide stable heating for frequent use |
| Spa Sauna Systems | Generate heat and support steam production |
| Traditional Electric Sauna Stoves | Heat stones for sauna bathing |
What Materials Are Used for Sauna Heating Tubes?
Material selection is important because sauna stoves operate at elevated temperatures and may be exposed to moisture.
Common sheath materials include stainless steel, selected according to the required temperature, corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and operating environment.
The heating wire is commonly made from resistance alloys such as nickel-chromium, while high-purity magnesium oxide is used as the electrical insulation and heat-transfer medium.
